That's the list of documents required to register a sailboat for commercial purposes, with the Director General of Shipping in India!

We've spent a nerve-racking two weeks in the throes of the final registration process ensuring that Antara has all the mandated equipment, marked with her name, port of registry and official number. And this afternoon, finally, we have sign off on documents that assure us that our boat will be registered and we will be licensed to sail Antara. The video below walks you through Antara, all set for her final survey:

The nail biting finish involves us going to the Mercantile Marine Department in Goa to submit the signed documents along with a letter requesting the MMD to provide us with the relevant certificates. We have decided to frame and hang these in a prominent position in the boat. A garland around them would add a nice touch methinks.

Next week we will begin the process of moving Antara out of the boatyard on Divar island to her anchorage in Dona Paula. We will give her a final coat of paint and polish and complete the small remaining tasks. Then we will have to remove her mast and rigging as her air draft at 17 metres is more than the railway bridge in Divar and the two road bridges of Panaji. That done, we will motor her out to the Captain of Ports jetty and rig her for the final time.

Watch out, Antara sails soon!

With Antara, you now have the opportunity to sail, safe in Covid times - on a large sailboat, along the coast, in the deep blue yonder! You decide and we'll design a sail just for you.
